Quality Assurance/Lab Manager/Metallurgist

Level 1 NDT Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment
  • Perform daily and preventive maintenance activities related to all non-destructive testing equipment
  • Conduct all required non-destructive testing and shop floor destructive testing adhering strictly to all pertinent safety requirements
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results
  • Take appropriate action related to signals from non-destructive testing equipment including but not limited to communication, test parameter adjustments and segregation of product
  • Perform flattening tests on heat treated product, evaluate and interpret test samples and take appropriate action including but not limited to communication, test parameter adjustments and segregation of product
  • Document and maintain a database of all testing results
  • Verification and preventive maintenance of all test equipment in the work area
  • Liaison with Manufacturing, Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Maintenance to produce quality product in a safe manner
  • Organize and report test results
  • Perform specialized inspections using various testing methods
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiative
  • Adherence to and compliance with all applicable company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned for which he/she has received training, possess qualifications and/or is considered competent
  • Discussing solutions to problems with other technical staff
  • Researching and developing test or repair technology and new products
  • Summarizing findings in regular reports and developing and presenting recommendations
  • Participating in meetings and committees to communicate information and serve as a liaison with other departments and managers

Requirements:

  • Minimum of CGSB Level 1 Theory certification or equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with API 5CT specification
  • Experience in a automated, high tech production facility
  • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, etc.
  • Proven report writing ability
  • Professional, co-operative attitude and behaviour
  • Willing to embrace new challenges
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with front line workers and management, and to function as an effective team member
  • Excellent problem-solving skills following effective and proven methodology such as Root Cause Analysis

  • Willingness to travel to Customerís facility when required

Level 2 NDT Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the activities of the NDT Team ensuring that all testing is performed in full compliance with specified requirements and documented procedures, effectively and with strict adherence to safety regulations  
  • Monitoring and assessing the suitability of all NDT processes employed to test Q & T pipe
  • Lead continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives
  • Disposition product with indications from all NDT equipment
  • Evaluate the performance of Level 1 NDT Technicians, identifying their strengths and weaknesses and mentoring them to address the identified weaknesses

  • Intimate knowledge and familiarity with API 5CT specification
  • A minimum of 5 years related work experience in a automated, high tech production facility
  • In addition, at least 3 years of experience in managing a team of NDT Technicians, with the ability to effectively coordinate efforts with other professionals
  • Familiarity with Project Management techniques
  • Experience conducting failure analyses for the purpose of analyzing non-conforming products and conditions
  • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, etc.
  • Proven report writing ability
  • Professional, co-operative attitude and behaviour
  • Willing to embrace new challenges
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with front line workers and management, and to function as an effective team leader and member
  • Excellent problem-solving skills following effective and proven methodology such as Root Cause Analysis
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work well with representatives of a Customerís Third Party Inspection company when required
  • Willingness to travel to Customerís facility when required
  • Willingness to participate and represent Welded Tube in committees related to NDT, outside of Welded Tube
  • Excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, ie time management, ability to prioritize, etc.
  • Ability to motivate, and support a work team on both an individual and group basis

Quality Assurance/Lab Manager/Metallurgist

Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring and assessing the suitability of all processes employed to produce a completed Q & T pipe 
  • Working to maintain the structural and chemical integrity of the metal as it is formed and machined through the various mechanical processes
  • Testing samples of metal parts as they move through the mechanical processes in order to ensure that the end result meets the manufacturing requirements of Company
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of metal samples and performing physical and chemical laboratory tests
  • Developing specifications for heat treatment of metals and troubleshooting welding processes
  • Managing and supervising the lab technicians, including conducting  annual performance reviews and regular supervision meetings, in a manner that supports the operations in the development and execution of annual plans
  • Responsible for the orientation of new staff and for co-ordinating on-going training, as required
  • Interpreting and understanding design drawings and making recommendations
  • Assisting engineers in specifying material selection, metal treatments or corrosion protection systems
  • Making manufacturing time-critical decisions
  • Monitoring quality standards throughout the manufacturing process and finishing
  • Responsible for the health and safety issues of staff
  • Completing structural analysis using sophisticated software
  • Preparing documents, manuals, metallurgical investigations and reports as required
  • Meeting cost and expenditure budgets, including seeking out opportunities for the improvement in process, costs and research and development

  • As part of the Management team, assisting with the design and development of organizational policies and safety procedures relevant to the overall facility
  • Developing the specification requirements for proposals and contracts

Requirements:

  • Minimum of an Engineering Degree in Metallurgy
  • A minimum of 5 years related work experience in a automated, high tech production facility
  • In addition, at least 5 years of experience in managing a team of lab technicians, with the ability to effectively coordinate efforts with other professionals
  • Proven experience in project management , including an ability to facilitate the successful conclusion of a large project
  • Metallurgic expertise in troubleshooting non-conforming conditions
  • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, etc.
  • Proven report writing ability
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check in accordance with the Company policy
