Chief Mining Geologist
Chief Mining Engineer

Chief Mining Geologist

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the direction and guidance of a staff including geologists, technicians, samplers. 
  • Direct drilling contractors and coordinate with inside and external laboratories. 
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors work safely.
  • Prepare geologic interpretations to support ongoing mine operations and coordinate mapping, sampling grade control and reconciliation programs.
  • Develop and implement high standards of sampling and other grade control practices. 
  • Establish diligent QA/QC practices.
  • Prepare annual resource model updates for internal and external reporting. 
  • Act as a Qualified Person as defined under NI 43-101 guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of mine operating plans for short and long term.
  • Prepare department budgets and on a monthly basis report on activities and costs in relation to plan.

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Geology or Geological Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Ontario
  • A minimum of 10 years experience, at least 3 years at a senior level
  • Exposure to both open pit and underground environments
  • Experience with Gemcom, A-Mine or other mining software
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Chief Mining Engineer

Responsibility:

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the Senior Planning Engineer, Senior Surveyor,  Geotechnical Engineer, and Ventilation Engineer
  • Indirect supervision of all subordinate employees to the Senior Engineers in the Mine Engineering group.
  • Must provide, through direction of the activities of the Mine Engineering Department, for the safe and efficient development of open pit and underground ore reserves.
  • Corporate metal production goals must be met in a manner which maximizes productivity and minimizes associated costs.
  • Must ensure the efficient integration of site infrastructure requirements (dewatering, access, utilities, buildings, pit and Underground services) into all short and long term production plans and provide for their orderly development.
  • Direct the preparation of reports, studies, and data compilations required by management and other departments for the analysis of past, present, and future planned operations.
  • Must maintain open and effective communication with Mine Maintenance, Mine Operations, Engineering Services, Environmental, and Process in order to integrate their respective requirements into short and long term plans and to ensure they are properly informed of production and development plans.
  • Must facilitate the maintenance of a safe, challenging, stimulating and professional work environment within the Mine Engineering Department which encourages initiative, creativity and commitment.
  • Must provide leadership in the areas of Loss Control, and to that end, participate in the development and maintenance of departmental and property-wide Loss Control programs.
  • Must ensure that Provincial and Federal Health and Safety Regulations and all company policies and procedures are maintained and adhered to within the Mine Engineering Department.
  • Responsible for developing and following an annual budget for the Mine Engineering Department.

Requirements:

  • B.S. Mining Engineering, Occupational training in management and Loss Control techniques.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in open pit mine engineering and operations.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the supervision of all basic mine engineering for open pit and underground mining.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to effectively manage a large, diverse group of technical professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to effectively interface with Corporate and mine site management, and other departmental managers and superintendents.

Details:

  • Salary: 140K per annum plus bonus and relocation costs.
